A thought about the purpose of Photography and Journalism

I’ve been mulling this in my head since yesterday but this tweet and an in depth email I read crystallised it for me (click on the link if the picture does not automatically appear)

A Photographer‘s role is to capture the near unseen. Images, landscapes and what people generally will miss on a day to day or are unable to see. To be the eyes of others

The role of a Journalist is to not just regurgitate a dominant viewpoint or narrative but to investigate, tie things together…dig and find. Those occurrences which go missing from the humdrum, seeming coincidences that don’t add up, to inform people of things that they would like to know themselves but don’t have the time to enquire. In some ways to be the conscience and interrogator of the people

what do you think?
