7 days in sound, you seen it?

this is probably the best Daft Punk interview I have read to date

Their mechanized identities also act as a buffer for the out-of-control egomania that could result from a sea of people losing their shit in your general direction as you stand over them from the apex of a million-watt triangle. “Looking at robots is not like looking at an idol,” contends de Homem-Christo. “It’s not a human being, so it’s more like a mirror– the energy people send to the stage bounces back and everybody has a good time together rather than focusing on us.”

the title is the simplest way that I can address what is really the best Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo aka Daft Punk interview I’ve read in my life. possibly. props to Michael Renaud and Ryan Dombal and the pictures by Nabil

however the hype around Random Access Memories has been ridiculous and something that I’ve struggled to understand on two counts:

1. lead single Get Lucky aims for classic MJ but fails with the choice of vocalist. if you want to really channel the man then it’s a no-brainer to choose Usher. yes…I’m aware he doesn’t fit the critical, in/out, alternative Black cool of Pharrell (which matters most, perhaps even more than the music, when you’re a group such as Daft Punk) but what’s more important?

2. the last commercial studio LP they released was Human After All (which also happens to be one of my favourite albums by them) which received not only a lukewarm reception but varying amounts of utter distaste. after this followed the great scoring of Tron:Legacy but these two works do not explain to me the outpouring of love and hype which has followed the announcement of this new LP. maybe it was the famous pyramid tour? It’s also intriguing to see them with necklaces of such around their neck in the pics of the interview and memories or should I say non-memories of the shows

but enjoy the read. click the link. you know you want to
