On-Air: I’m returning to international airwaves as part of the AWIP team on GFM Radio!

it’s been a long time since I was involved with any type of long-term project of any kind but that’s all set to change. after a few warm-up sessions and personal time management on my part, I am very pleased to announce that I’m returning to radio!

yes…”returning”

back in university, I was a part of a Hip-Hop Show (The Hip-Hop Show on B-1000) alongside a few friends. it was more than fun, never a chore and you could find me on the computer soundboard getting knee deep into the sound effects with glee. we even had the legend that is DJ 279 come down one week and I can distinctly remember getting stuck in with the ‘Westwood‘ question (279 and Tim Westwood were supposedly rival Uk based Hip-Hop DJ’s). I find that I’m experiencing the same energy with this. rough, ready but this time with powerful purpose

“…a platform for intellectual and activist efforts to reverse Africa’s current marginalisation..”

the show is called AWIP which stands for Another World Is Possible. why the name? amongst other objectives such as the alternative to war and alternative to austerity movement, show founder and executive producer, Explo Nani-Kofi, wanted to create a show which gave a platform for intellectual and activist efforts to reverse Africa’s current marginalisation aswell as independent grass root and extra-establishment efforts to develop organisational capacity for Africans to reverse the present state of their marginalisation. this is why its so exciting to be a part of this project as instead of unnecessary sloganeering and banner waving, you get to speak to brothas and sistas on the ground worldwide who are actively putting their energy into changing the current state of world affairs. this is only currently able to happen via the platform which is GFM Radio, a community station that is committed to African and Caribbean people in the UK and it is a pleasure to be able to use their facilities

“you get to speak to brothas and sistas on the ground worldwide who are actively putting their energy into changing the current state of world affairs…”

the show is worldwide via the Internet and mobile apps such as TuneIn. you can click here or listen in via the website here. I’ll be on air fortnightly starting this Tuesday 02/07/13 from 19:00 – 21:00 GMT+1 with some powerful guests forthcoming. The subject of Tuesday‘s show is Has the Central African Republic been forgotten and why is the region and surrounding area of importance? This is something that we should all be asking and is one of the great tragidies of our time. with the guests that we have planned, this is something that we definitely be expounding on further

so yes…lock in if you can and contribute! the show’s Facebook page is accessible here and open for comments. Join us if you can

All roads lead to Fire in Vauxhall: it’s Swindle’s album launch!

this is going to be something

self explanatory really

this is going to be a night of considerable interest. why? well for one, I’m not sure I can remember the last time I saw a live performance in a rave plus from a Grime (however much drenched in musicianship, Funk and Jazz) producer at that

secondly, this is the first Butterz vs. Hardrive rave that is in a totally different venue. Club Cable (R.I.P) was a special venue for me and I’m proud to have lost my mind multiple times… and especially at my personal place by the swing doors leading to the 2nd room and cloakroom. sniff. pour a lil’ out

but all things must move forward and the Butterz administration have shown great ability in recovering from the snap shock of losing their ‘home’ and moving on. let’s see how this goes…or more importantly where I’m supposed to stand! I had a spot!

currently on my way there. actually just arrived. PEACE

Butterz vs. Hardrive 5 (Butterz 3rd Birthday)

“well well well” (c) JME

first of all, I have to be honest

as much as my pre-event post was full of anticipation, I do have to admit that my expectations weren’t as high as when approaching the previous event. the diversity of the previous line-up created probably the most impeccable Butterz vs. Hardrive yet. still even though overall some of the sets were slightly forgettable, that familiar B vs. H magic was sprinkled across the majority of the night…and so the saga continues

here are the small amount of pics I managed to take

so many moments: Swindle just reveling in the moment, the ease by which Terror moved from Bashment to Grime to Jungle while drunk lol, Joker‘s face when he pulled out Gully Brook Lane (let alone when he played R2D2. R2D2 MAN), the lights actually going out when Royal T‘s Undertaker intro started his set, Serious One‘s hosting, Bruza‘s determination…there’s more I can say and I could spend all day adding superlatives

there is something definitely special about both labels, the artists involved and the venue and you can feel it, literally feel it when the night starts to get going

apologies for the lack of copious pics and vids but I was too busy enjoying myself and losing my mind multiple times. try and make it down next time but…I’m not sure when next time will be now…

’til next time anyway
